Fashion Designer Rei Kawakubo (1942), founder of COMME des GARÇONS, was born in Tokyo. Kawakubo first became famous in the 1980’s because of her anti-fashion, deconstructed asymmetrical garments, mainly in black, dark grey or white and often frayed or with holes.
